CHARACTERISTICS OF COMPUTERS
1. SPEED
- COMPUTER CAN PERFORM MILLIONS OF CALCULATIONS IN A FRAGMENT OF SECONDS
- THE SPEED OF COMPUTER IS NOT MEASURED IN SECONDS BUT IS MEASURED IN FRACTION OF SECONDSFRACTIONS:
- 10-6 ( MICRO SECOND ) OR
- 10-9 ( NANO SECOND ) OR
- 10-12 ( PICO SECOND )THESE UNITS ARE USED TO MEASURE THE SPEED IN EXECUTION OF ARITHMETIC INSTRUCTIONS BY THE COMPUTER.
2.
ACCURACY
- THE ACCURACY LEVEL OF THE COMPUTER IS VERY HIGH. IT CAN DEPICT LARGE FRACTIONAL VALUES VERY ACCURATELY.
- GARBAGE IN GARBAGE OUT:- COMPUTER MAY PRODUCE MALICIOUS RESULTS BUT ITS ACCURACY CANNOT BE QUESTIONED BECAUSE IT IS HUMAN WHO COMMITS MISTAKES WHILE OPERATING.
3.STORAGE
- HUMAN CAN REMEMBER A PIECE OF INFORMATION AND FORGET AFTER SOMETIMES.
- HOWEVER, IN CASE OF COMPUTER, IT CAN STORE BULK OF DATA AND CAN RETRIEVE AS AND WHEN REQUIRE.
- TO STORE ONE CHARACTER, IT CONSUMES ONE “BYTE”.
- COMPUTER IS FREE FROM EXHAUSTION OR LACK OF CONCENTRATION.
- IT CAN WORK CONTINUOUSLY WITHOUT BEING TIRED.
- IT CAN DO REPEATED WORK WITH SAME SPEED AND ACCURACY.
- IT CAN DO DIFFERENT KIND OF JOBS PROVIDED TO IT IN A LOGICAL SEQUENCE.
- AT ONE MOMENT IT CAN PREPARE ACCOUNT STATEMENT AND IN ANOTHER IT CAN BE USED TO DRAFT A LETTER AND IN BETWEEN THE TWO IT CAN INSTRUCT THE PRINTER TO DESIGN.
